Our Why
What are working parents supposed to do with their children all summer long? This is the question that I kept asking myself, year after year. I’m one of the lucky ones and was able to work from home part-time but I still struggled to find summer care options that gave me enough time to complete the tasks I needed to do every week. In addition, I wanted more for my kids than to not merely make it through the summer on video games and TV shows while I furiously worked away in the other room or tried to phone it in while making snacks.
Helpful parents pointed me in the right direction. The answer is day camps! That is, if you can find one that is affordable, works with your schedule, and isn’t already on a waitlist. But the vast majority of camps last 3-6 hours a day. What about the 40-hour/week guardians? Those camps leave 15-25 hours of the working week unaccounted for.
That is where Art and Movement Summer Camp started. We want to be a resource for Missoula families who find themselves with few options in the summer months. Our goal is to facilitate an environment of learning, growth, and creativity where children can play and thrive while their parents continue to work a normal schedule.
Since we are brand new in 2024, we are only taking 24 campers per week. We will have a maximum of a 12-1 ratio of campers/camp aids and there will always be a First Aid/CPR-certified staff member present.
We hope to continue to grow and adapt this program to better serve the families of our community. Plans for this program include expanding age ranges, programming, and scholarships.
